How Can I Apologize for Social Oppression?

Many people feel that these problems are too big for “little ol’ me” to solve. “I’m just one person,” they may say, “and these problems are so big… I did not create these problems, and it’s not my responsibility to solve them.” Although we were all born into a society that is racist and this was not our conscious choice, we became accomplices in the perpetuation of racism against our wills, and we were forced into the role of oppressors. While we did not create racism, it is upon us to work to create justice, equality, and peace. In other words, it is our responsibility to create social change, and to heal racism.

Please do not give up. Please do not feel hopeless. Read on…

If we as White people, all join together as ambassadors of our race to offer our many varied apologies, we will have made a profound statement and created a profound shift in consciousness.

  1. We as blacks dont want an apology in the form of words….Just equality. No speeches, no rants about the sun, the moon and the stars all aligning with God’s erroneous power. Nope, just fairness.

    1. Thank you, Tina Causey, my Dear Black Sister, for writing to me via The Apology Website. I am certain you have struggled with racism for what must feel like a million years. It’s actually been too long for any human being to bear. The pain of racial injustice, inequality and unfairness is a burden you do not deserve and never have deserved. I am sorry you have had to bear this unjust pain. Your pain is my pain. I would like to do more than just speak these words to you. My apology implies not only speaking these truth-bearing words to you. It implies my commitment to take action to right the wrongs of injustice, in ways big and small. (Some are bigger, some are smaller…) Thank you, again, for your comment.
